The teaser trailer for Tarsem‘s “Immortals” has been unveiled on E! News with their signature, annoying voice over and, while only a bootleg version is available so far, it seemingly exhibits a highly-stylized swords-and-sandals pic very much in the vein of Zack Snyder‘s “300.”
The film has a similar earthy bronze aesthetic, slow motion fight sequences, extravagant costuming and even the stereotypical, emotional speech from the general to his soldiers. Caravaggio meets “Romeo+Juliet,” “Oldboy” and “Fight Club” might be what Tarsem was aiming for but we’re certainly not seeing it just yet. We’re just hoping, though, that the marketing is being geared towards the “300” crowd and that Tarsem, in fact, has something a bit more compelling up his sleeve.
There’s not a whole lot to it either with regards to plot — a young warrior, Theseus, must lead his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil elder gods of the Titans and save mankind — but the cast, led by Snyder’s “Superman” Henry Cavill who’ll play the lead Theseus along with Stephen Dorff as sidekick Stavros, Freida Pinto as a priestess, Mickey Rourke as King Hyperion, Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, Luke Evans as Zeus, John Hurt as Old Zeus and Isabel Lucas as Athena is something to hang hope on.
“Immortals” hits theaters on November 11th. [via ONTD]
