If you haven’t seen “Shiva Baby” yet, you really should. The comedy from writer-director Emma Seligman and star Rachel Sennott is one of the most uncomfortable, but hilarious viewing experiences you’ll have all year. And after all the acclaim the indie film has already received, it appears the duo is ready to work together yet again for a new comedy, “Bottoms.”
According to THR, Seligman and Sennott have co-written a script for a film, “Bottoms,” that is now going to be produced by Elizabeth Banks and her Brownstone Productions. MGM Orion will also be involved in the new comedy that will be directed by Seligman and star Sennott. “Bottoms” tells the story of two queer girls that decide the best way to have sex before high school graduation is to start a fight club. Yep, a fight club. Considering their previous collaboration took place nearly real-time during a shiva, it’s hard not to have complete faith that these two will be able to turn any premise into something hilarious.

“Shiva Baby” was the directorial debut with Seligman, who based the feature off of her short of the same name. The film also marked the major film debut for Sennott, who is an up-and-coming comedian that has appeared in a number of shorts. But after “Shiva Baby,” both have been catapulted into the indie spotlight, with a lot of folks wanting to know what they had up their sleeve next.
It’s unclear when production will begin on “Bottoms.” However, you have to assume it’ll enter filming soon and maybe have a release date sometime in 2022. We’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, definitely check out “Shiva Baby” and listen to our recent podcast with Sennott.
