'Boyhood' Tops The 2015 Golden Globe Awards With Best Picture, Best Director & More

BoyhoodThat’s a wrap. Richard Linklater‘s "Boyhood" was the big winner in film, taking Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress for Patricia Arquette. Wes Anderson‘s "The Grand Budapest Hotel" took Best Musical/Comedy over "Birdman," and "Selma" was snubbed outside of Best Original Song. Will the Oscars follow suit? Well, maybe if the nominations are the same, but the lack of Comedy/Musical category definitely makes the competition much tighter. Those nominations are on Thursday and we’re still betting on some differences.

In the television categories, the big winners were two newcomers:  Amazon‘s "Transparent" in the Comedy/Musical categories including Best Show and Best Actor, and Showtime‘s "The Affair" which took Best Show and Best Actress in the Drama category.

Previously: OK, we’re here. The most important time of the year. Ok, not really. It’s just the 2015 Golden Globes, the ceremony where The Hollywood Foreign Press Association celebrate those with the greatest gift bags given out during the campaigning season. And well, at least we’ll have the boozy Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to make it all so much more delightfully tolerable (seriously, bless their hearts).

The frontrunner of the night is Fox Searchlight‘s "Birdman" which leads the pack with seven nominations, including Best Picture (Comedy Or Musical), Best Director, Best Actor (Comedy Or Musical), and Best Screenplay. In the HFPA categories — stars that the associations love regardless of the movie — Jennifer Aniston is nominated for Best Actress in the film "Cake" and the always-great Julianne Moore is up for her role in (the rather forgettable) "Still Alice." A double threat, she’s also nominated in the Comedy or Musical category for David Cronenberg‘s "Maps To The Stars."

In the TV world, "True Detective," "Fargo," and "House Of Cards" all have seen a lot of Globe nomination love. Though we’re hoping Clive Owen, with his stellar work on "The Knick," and Newcomers "Jane the Virgin" and "Transparent" aren’t ignored. Here’s Oli’s Globe predictions in the interim so you can see how he did during or afterwards.
