Last year was a year of excess when it came to the superhero film/TV landscape. Of course, we’re talking about how “Avengers: Endgame” threw every superhero possible on the screen and dominated the record books. But there was also the deconstruction of the superhero genre done expertly in “Watchmen” and “The Boys.” And while “Watchmen” might be ready to collect a ton of Emmy trophies in a month, “The Boys” is skipping the ceremony and moving ahead with more superhero mayhem with Season 2.
As seen in the trailer for Season 2, “The Boys” picks up right where Season 1 left off with our hero Butcher discovering his wife is still alive and well, just being monitored by Homelander (Superman if Clark Kent was a breast milk-obsessed, power-hungry sociopath). Now, Butcher and the rest of the Boys come together to rescue his wife, take down the Seven, and save the day. Only one problem, there’s a new hero to contend with and she may or may not be a fear-mongering Nazi—Stormfront.
The series’ ensemble cast includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Tomer Capon, Karen Fukuhara, Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Aya Cash, Laz Alonso, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, Claudia Doumit, Goran Visnijc, Malcolm Barrett, Colby Minifie, Shantel VanSanten, Cameron Crovetti, PJ Byrne, Laila Robbins, and Giancarlo Esposito.
“The Boys” Season 2 arrives on Amazon Prime on September 4.
Here’s the synopsis for Season 2:
The even more intense, more insane Season 2 finds The Boys on the run from the law, hunted by the Supes, and desperately trying to regroup and fight back against Vought. In hiding, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) try to adjust to a new normal, with Butcher (Karl Urban) nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) must navigate her place in The Seven as Homelander (Antony Starr) sets his sights on taking complete control. His power is threatened with the addition of Stormfront (Aya Cash), a social media-savvy new Supe, who has an agenda of her own. On top of that, the Supervillain threat takes center stage and makes waves as Vought seeks to capitalize on the nation’s paranoia.
