Damn son, the Oscars are going to get some serious swagger.
"Inception" and "The Dark Knight Rises" composer Hans Zimmer and beatmaking producer and hip hop artist extraordinarire Pharrell Williams (who also did the score to "Despicable Me") have been tapped as musical consultants for the Oscars. The show's producers Brian Grazer and Don Mischer are apparently trying to contemporize the festivities by adding some of Zimmer's modern classical approach and Pharrell's stripped down beats, as the duo will supervise the tunes. So if George Clooney throws down some cardboard and breaks a few moves before announcing the award for Best Editing, you know why.
Jokes aside, these are some pretty solid choices, and probably far better than whatever Brett Ratner would have come up with, which judging by his music video directing resume would probably have been Mariah Carey and Miley Cyrus. The Zimmer/Williams pairing would also be an amazing presmise for a sitcom.
The Oscars will be broadcast on February 26, 2012. You'll probably want to turn on your sub-woofer. [Deadline]
