Brad Pitt Options Housing Bubble Book By 'Moneyball' Author

Brad Pitt must get some wicked pleasure out of torturing producers as the actor’s Plan B Entertainment are closing on deal to turn Michael Lewis’ “The Big Short: Inside The Doomsday Machine” in to a film, and a potential starring vehicle for the actor. And by “potential starring vehicle” that could mean anything from “starring Brad Pitt” to “starring-Brad-Pitt-until-he-loses-interest-and-wants-to-do-something-else-at-the-last-minute.”

Does the name Lewis sound familiar? If you recall, he was the writer behind “Moneyball” which was brutally shut down literally hours before filming was supposed to begin last summer. Producers Scott Rudin and Dean DeLuca, the latter of whom is still attached to “Moneyball,” were originally eyeballing the book but stepped away when Pitt’s team began to circle. This likely means that the project will be set up at Paramount where Pitt’s producing pal Dede Gardner has an office.

Vulture says, “Moneyball” is moving forward. We’re not so sure about that claim. Last we heard it was quite the exact opposite…

In related Pitt news, what’s the deal with his crazy beard these days? Speculation is running rampant it’s for the forthcoming “The Lost City Of Z” — about a vanished explorer — being helmed by James Gray (yeah, we know this is old news, but we’re still kind of shocked). But depending on who you ask there is no script and no start date so maybe Pitt just hasn’t felt like using a razor lately?
