The duo of Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper are reuniting after the success of their last film, 2014’s “American Sniper,” for a new film titled “The Mule.”
According to Variety, Eastwood intends on directing the new film, with Cooper as his star. And interestingly enough, Eastwood has decided to also step in front of the camera for the first time since 2012’s “Trouble with the Curve”.
“The Mule” tells the story of Earl Stone (Eastwood), who is broke, alone, and facing foreclosure of his business. Desperate for money, Earl decides to take an easy driving gig. However, as you might have guessed from the title of the film, Earl unknowingly becomes a drug courier for a Mexican cartel, where he hits the radar of DEA agent Colin Bates (Cooper).

Bradley Cooper is finishing up work on his directorial debut “A Star is Born,” which he stars in alongside Lady Gaga. That film is expected to be an awards-contender when it debuts later this year. After that, he’s already lined up his next directing gig, “Bernstein,” in which he stars as the famous “West Side Story” composer Leonard Bernstein.
Eastwood is coming off the recent release of his film “The 15:17 to Paris.” Before that, he directed “Sully” and the aforementioned “American Sniper.” At a spry 87-years-old, Variety speculates that “The Mule” could be the last time we see the legendary Hollywood icon step in front of the camera.
With Cooper’s immediate schedule pretty busy, it doesn’t look like “The Mule” will be on the fast-track to theaters. However, with the recent track record of Cooper, along with Eastwood’s pedigree, “The Mule” looks to be a film everyone will want to keep their eyes on.
