It’s look like Michelle MacLaren had dusted herself off after that whole DC films thing and signed on to direct “The Nightingale” for TriStar. The film is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Kristin Hannah, and tells the story of two French sisters and their struggle during the German occupation of France in World War II.
MacLaren is perhaps best known for her work in TV. She had previously helmed episodes of “Breaking Bad,” “The Walking Dead,” and “Game Of Thrones.” Her series work has earned her critical acclaim, but she has been looking to break out and direct a big-budget film for a while now. Most recently, she was attached to “Wonder Woman,” but left during pre-production when she and Warner Bros. had those dreaded “creative differences.” Patty Jenkins eventually landed the job.

“The Nightingale” has a script by Ann Peacock (“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe,” Kit Kittredge: An American Girl“), but along with directing, MacLaren and her writing partner, the indie legend John Sayles, are now going to take a swing at the script to make sure it’s where they want it to be.
