When you’re putting something together as massive as the 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2019, you think about the heavy hitters, and then you eventually land upon: what’s Charlie Kaufman up to? Well, like most filmmakers these days of repute who have difficulty getting their ambitious ideas off the ground: going to Netflix. At the beginning of this year, it was reported that Kaufman had gone to Netflix to make “I’m Thinking Of Ending Things,” based on the book by Iain Reid — which features a book blurb by Kaufman. Now, Kaufman’s found a star in Brie Larson, aka Marvel‘s Captain Marvel (who maybe not so coincidentally has a new trailer debuting tonight).

Here’s the book synopsis:
In this deeply suspenseful and irresistibly unnerving debut novel, a man and his girlfriend are on their way to a secluded farm. When the two take an unexpected detour, she is left stranded in a deserted high school, wondering if there is any escape at all. What follows is a twisted unraveling that will haunt you long after the last page is turned.
Suicidal, bleak, scary, perhaps uncomfortably funny? That’s got Charlie Kaufman all over it. Kaufman hasn’t had a good go of it recently and or, another way of looking at it was that he was deeply disappointed by his critically-acclaimed animated hit “Anomalisa” which he lamented made no money at the box office back in 2015. Perhaps that’s why Kaufman did an unlikely move and took a paycheck gig recently writing an adaptation of the YA novel “Chaos Walking“ for director Doug Liman.
Back to ‘Ending Things,’ will we regret not putting it on our list of 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2019? Time will tell if it actually comes out next year, but if it does, hell, we’ll be waiting there to embrace it with open arms.
