She’s had the success of “Short Term 12,” which put her on the map as a serious actress (one which many suggested was Oscar-worthy), and she showed her supporting mettle in “21 Jump Street” and “The Spectacular Now” plus a recent successful turn on “Community” (see the image above). And now actress Brie Larson is moving up the ranks and will join Judd Apatow’s next film, “Trainwreck.”
Already starring relatively unknown comedian Amy Schumer and Bill Hader, while plot details are under wraps, perhaps the most interesting thing about “Trainwreck” is that unlike his previous two pictures, “Funny People” and “This Is 40,” the picture wasn’t self-generated and launched from Apatow’s post-40s neuroses of mortality and the fragility of long-term relationships.
The fact is, we don’t know what “Trainwreck” is about, but written by Schumer, we’ll presume it’s female-centric and that it was a great enough script and idea that it convinced Apatow to let his own personal ideas take a backseat in favor of something that could possibly capture the comedic zeitgeist a la “Bridesmaids” (which Apatow also helped develop). Set for release on July 24, 2015, Universal has also shown it has a lot of confidence in the movie despite the fact Schumer is unknown to audiences outside of her breakout 2013 Comedy Central sketch comedy show “Inside Amy Schumer” (which returns this April and will only raise her Q-rating that much more). Who will Larson, Schumer or anyone play? It’s all up in the air for now, but like the aforementioned “Bridesmaids” posit earlier, we bet the idea was enticing enough for Apatow to take the gamble.
