Brie Larson & Miles Teller Join 'The Spectacular Now' With 'The Descendants' Star Shailene Woodley

nullThe name Brie Larson may not be one that’s readily on the tip of the average cinema-goer’s tongue, but she may just have a face that many are starting to remember. With impressive and fairly memorable roles in the likes of “Rampart,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” and most recently “21 Jump Street,” Larson has started to get the attention she deserves away from her TV gig on “United States of Tara.” She has “Relanxious” with Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis, and “Squirrel to the Nuts” with Owen Wilson and (again) Olivia Wilde on her upcoming schedule, and now she’s added a new comedy in the form of “The Spectacular Now."

Larson will join “The Descendants” star Shailene Woodley as one of the leads in the Shawn Levy-produced comedy. Larson will play Cassidy in the film, which “centers on a high school senior who lives only for the moment. As a project, he begins to date a social outcast, a girl trying to plan for the future, but begins to realize he has the power to permanently impact someone's life.” Whether it’s Woodley or Larson who’s the "social outcast" is not yet known (although our money’s on Larson) but it’s certainly a talented young cast that director James Ponsoldt (“Smashed”) is beginning to line up.

What is known, however, and only cements the quality level of the cast, is the addition of Miles Teller as the film’s male lead. You’ll recognise Teller from his excellent work in the misery-fest that was “Rabbit Hole,” from his hilarious take on the Chris Penn role in the underrated “Footloose” remake, and from his smaller role in the lamentable “Project X.” We’ve been a big fan of what we’ve seen from Teller so far, and it’s great to see him lining up alongside Larson and Woodley. Deadline also speculates that Teller may be in line for the lead role in Sony’s “The Kitchen Sink,” but for the moment we’re happy just to be looking forward to seeing him in this.
