Brie Larson Signs Deal With Netflix To Release Directorial Debut 'Unicorn Store' & Upcoming 'Lady Business'

With an Academy Award under her belt already, and a sure-bet blockbuster, “Captain Marvel,” just over a month away, the Brie Larson business is on fire and doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. And Netflix, being the opportunistic studio with a seemingly bottomless pocketbook, wants to buy in on the Brie Larson business while it’s hot.

According to Deadline, Netflix has secured a two-film deal with actress/producer/director Brie Larson and her producing partner Lynette Howell Taylor. The two films in question are the upcoming “Unicorn Store,” which marks the directorial debut for Larson, who also stars in the film, and the in-development film “Lady Business,” which will once again star Larson, who will most likely direct, as well.

“Unicorn Store” is a film that fans are probably already familiar with. The film made its debut at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, where it was received with mixed-to-favorable reviews. The comedy stars Larson as a woman who must move back in with her parents and is invited to a mysterious, and mystical, store run by Samuel L. Jackson as The Salesman. “Unicorn Store” is now scheduled to hit Netflix on April 5, less than a month after Larson’s Marvel debut.

The new film in the deal is “Lady Business,” which tells the true story of two women that are forced to create a fictional male business partner to be taken seriously in the business world. As mentioned, Larson is positioning herself to star in the film, and potentially as her next directorial venture.

“It’s not an easy time in the world right now so I hope that, in the old tradition of films being a form of escapism and a way to dream, [‘Unicorn Store’] can do that,” Larson said.

There’s no production schedule set for “Lady Business,” but Larson is currently just wrapped on a new film with Michael B. Jordan and will soon be knee-deep in a worldwide publicity blitz for her “Captain Marvel,” which hits theaters on March 9.
