'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' May Tackle The #MeToo Movement In Upcoming Season According To Co-Creator

Earlier this year, NBC came in and saved the day for canceled comedy series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” The Andy Samberg-starring series was cut by Fox after 5 seasons, only to have rival network NBC swoop in to bring the cop comedy back. And now, the comedy series is ready to venture into the realm of the #MeToo movement.

According to series co-creator Dan Goor, who spoke at a recent TCA event (via The Wrap), the series is looking to tackle the controversy in a thoughtful way in a future episode. “I can’t make a promise, but we’re really interested in trying to do a #MeToo storyline,” Goor said. “It’s something that we’re actively talking about in the writers’ room.”

Samberg added, “We’re not going to do it unless we feel that we have the right take that is doing it justice.”

For those wondering why it’s important to note that “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” would tackle such a hot-button issue, one of the leading reasons is clearly due to one of the cast members, Terry Crews. The actor has been at the center of an ongoing legal battle between himself and an agent, who Crews alleges touched him inappropriately at a party.

Since going public with his own #MeToo story, Crews has been one of the leading male advocates of the movement. And at the TCA event, he spoke up about how #MeToo has affected his life and Hollywood, in general. “I feel like this is gonna be a new day, and now the town will be safer for my wife, for my son and for my daughter,” said Crews.

Again, there’s no definite word on whether or not “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will do a special episode, but it wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary. The series has tackled issues in the past and done so in a funny, thoughtful way.
