'Bruno' Set To Provoke Massive Middle American Homophobia In May 2009

Sacha Baron Cohen’s follow-up to his 2006 box-office smash, “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,” the movie based on the titular gay Austrian TV character “Bruno,” is set to freak out and offend America on May 15, 2009.

As of now, it’s the only R-rated comedy of that season. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, much like Borat, you know Bruno is another character taken from from the lauded “Da Ali G Show.”

Despite the successful team-up of Larry Charles and Baron Cohen on ‘Borat,’ it appears that the “Curb Your Enthusiasm”/ “Religulous it appears that he won’t be returning for ‘Bruno,’ and instead, “Da Ali G Show” director Dan Mazer will be helming the pic, according to IMDB.

If you’re sadly unfamiliar with the Bruno character, some highlights below. The rumored full title of the untitled Bruno movie said to be “Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt.” Universal won the bidding war for the film and paid $42 million for the U.S. rights to the film. There’s been scattered reports of of the comedy shooting around Los Angeles and last we heard, Bruno was doing his best to get in California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s face.
