'Burning' Teaser: Filmmaker Lee Chang-Dong Is Back With His First Film In 7 Years

Lee Chang-dong is a filmmaker we’ve followed for years. The acclaimed director has been a mainstay at the Cannes Film Festival, where he’s shown multiple films and even served as a jury member. However, it’s been a while since his last film, “Poetry,” was released in 2011. We are definitely due for a film from the amazing South Korean director. And it looks like his next film, “Burning,” is getting closer to release.

In the new teaser for the film, we don’t learn a lot about the film, but what we do see is a beautiful teaser that truly teases. Unlike the horrible quick-cut Hollywood teasers we’ve grown accustomed to, the first teaser for “Burning” relies on imagery and music, with very little narration, to hook the viewer and make them interested to see what’s next. And that’s even without English subtitles!

“Burning” is based on the short story “Barn Burning” by author Haruki Murakami. The mystery thriller is about a woman who becomes entangled with two very different men. One man is rich while the other man is a writer who just struggles to get by and make ends meet. A mysterious incident takes place that affects all three in a different way.

The film stars Yoo Ah-in, who is probably best known for his roles in “Punch,” “Secret Love Affair,” and the 2015 film, “Veteran.” “Burning” also stars Steven Yeun, who is probably more well-known in the United States due to his role in the mega-popular zombie series “The Walking Dead.” However, Yuen has broken out of his ‘Walking Dead’ past with roles in the recent films “Okja” and “Mayhem.”

While we don’t know when “Burning” will have its premiere, we can’t wait to see what Lee Chang-dong has up his sleeve next for audiences. So far, the one-minute teaser has us begging for more.
