For about a week there, it looked like the upcoming “Annie” remake would see Sandra Bullock join its ranks. Talks seemed to indicate it would all happen, before they fell apart seven days later. But don’t sweat it folks, because another actress is making sure this movie keeps going.
Cameron Diaz will take the role of Miss Hanningan in the film. As you’ll recall, the character was played by Carol Burnett in the original film, and she’s the none-too-friendly woman in charge of the orphanage where Annie lives. It’s an…interesting choice we suppose, and we’ll see if Diaz is up to the task. We presume this means she’ll be singing too. Hmm. Anyway, she joins “Beasts Of The Southern Wild” star Quvenzhané Wallis, who has the lead role, while Jamie Foxx will play the rich Benjamin Stacks.
Will Smith and Jay-Z produce, “Easy A” director Will Gluck is behind the camera and production begins this fall. [Deadline]
