Cannes: First Poster For Denis Villeneuve's Thriller 'Sicario' Plus The Official Synopsis

SicarioThe Cannes Film Festival brings together both arthouse and mainstream films, but sometimes a movie straddles both worlds, which seems to be the case with Denis Villeneuve‘s "Sicario." The director has showed with "Prisoners" that he could make first class material, and "Enemy" demonstrates that he isn’t afraid to leave audiences in limbo. Which makes us pretty excited for his next effort, which has just revealed its first poster via IMDB.

Emily BluntJosh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro star in a story that following an FBI agent and two male Delta Force rangers who cross from Tucson to Mexico to catch a drug lord —but once they cross the border, it’s a more dangerous and depraved milieu than they expected. Here’s the official synopsis:

In Mexico, SICARIO means hitman.

In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent [Emily Blunt] is enlisted by an elite government task force official [Josh Brolin] to aid in the escalating war against drugs.
Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past [Benicio Del Toro], the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.

“It’s a movie about choices,” Del Toro, who plays a hitman, says about the movie. “It’s tough to say whether any character in ‘Sicario’ is truly good or bad. Do the means justify the ends? What happens when go into a situation where you want to kill one guy and you kill 20 innocent people? You got the bad guy, but at what cost?”

"Sicario" opens on September 18th.
