With all the recent drama about what films may or may not show up at the Cannes Film Festival and what Netflix plans on doing, we actually have some news about the prestigious event that doesn’t involve speculation. Here’s the official poster for the 2018 festival, and we must say, it’s great.
In the image, which is pulled from the Jean-Luc Godard film “Pierrot le Fou,” we see actors Jean-Paul Belmondo and Anna Karina sharing a kiss while in two cars. The film follows a man, bored with his fancy life, who decides to drop everything and run away with an old girlfriend. One problem, the old girlfriend, played by Karina, is being chased by hitmen.
The poster drops on the eve of the big announcement of the Cannes Film Festival official line-up. As of today, we are only aware of two films being shown at the festival. The Asghar Farhadi film “Everybody Knows,” which stars Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem has landed the highly sought-after opening slot at the festival. And to pretty much everyone’s surprise, Lucasfilm announced that they are using the Cannes Film Festival to serve as the world premiere of their upcoming “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” Outside of those two films, we really aren’t sure exactly who will be presenting at the film festival, but as always, we’ll be here to cover it.
The Cannes Film Festival begins May 8, and the official line-up will be unveiled tomorrow.
