Captain Jack Fails To Raise A Smile In Comic-Con Teaser For 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides'

Despite the weak-ass sequels, Captain Jack Sparrow is still one of Hollywood’s most beloved franchise characters, and probably the role that Johnny Depp will be associated with for the rest of his career. So it makes sense that, despite filming only just having kicked off on the fourth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, “On Stranger Tides,” Disney would get the man himself to introduce it to the world at Comic-Con.

The clip features Sparrow talking to the audience, warning of an adventure to find the Fountain of Youth, with dangers including “zombies, cutthroats, mermaids and the vicious and vivacious Penelope Cruz,” cunningly breaking the fourth wall and damaging what little credibility the character had. Staggeringly, considering the clip was clearly shot on Depp’s lunch break, and solely features him sat in a chair, it was shot and shown in 3D.
