Carey Mulligan To Star In Dark Comedy Thriller 'Nancy And Danny' From Director James Marsh

Carey MulliganNot content to let Tobey Maguire sign up for all the movies in the space created by "The Great Gatsby" delay, Carey Mulligan is getting into the swing of things joining a film that will see her exercise some different acting muscles than we're used to from the actress.

Mulligan is in negotiations to star in "Nancy And Danny," a dark comedy thriller that's said to be in the vein of Gus Van Sant's "To Die For." If there is any movie to be serving as inspiration for a dark comedy, you could do a lot worse. In yet another gear change for director James Marsh ("Man On Wire," "Red Riding 1980," "Shadow Dancer"), he will be helming the Brad Ingelsby ("Out Of The Furnace") penned story that follows a money hungry woman, whose life didn't turn out the way she wanted, who uses a man as a pawn to help land her high school crush in a get-rich-quick scheme. This sounds like it has (a lot of) shades of Jason Retiman's "Young Adult," but we're intrigued to see Mulligan tackle the role because it's definitely a far cry from anything she's done before.

No word yet on when it might roll, but there is more Mulligan on the horizon in 2013, including the Coen Brothers "Inside Llewyn Davis." Overall, another fascinating choice by Mulligan and we hope it comes together soon. [THR]
