Update: Casey Affleck To Reteam With 'Assassination Of Jesse James' Director Andrew Dominik For Crime Film

Update: Casey Affleck has confirmed the re-teaming in an interview with The Kevin and Josh Movie Show on 106.7 HD2 (CBS RADIO – Washington D.C.).

“In January, I’m going to be doing a movie with Andrew Dominik again,” he revealed. “I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it but it’s a Boston-based crime — it’s a novel that was set in Boston that’s not going to be set in Boston unfortunately. But it’s a novel that was set in Boston, it’s a great novel and his got a great take on it. There’s a lot of good people in it, it’s going to be a great movie.”

After making only two films last decade, Dominik now has two projects in the works!? We’re ecstatic, though the January start on this presumably pushes back (hopefully that’s all it is) the Marilyn Monroe quasi-biopic, “Blonde,” which was also slated to begin then. [Film School Rejects]

With the question of “is it real or is it fake?” surrounding his directorial debut “I’m Still Here” finally being answered, Casey Affleck can get back to the business of acting and it looks like he might be re-teaming with Andrew Dominik, who worked with the actor on the masterful “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.” The news comes via the New York Times, who are a bit unsure of themselves saying only it will “probably” happen, with no details on what the project might be.

In August it was reported that Dominik was penning the remake of Guillaume Canet’s “Tell No One,” though at the time, no director was announced. However, the project that seems most likely for a Dominik-Affleck pairing is the quasi-Marilyn Monroe biopic with Naomi Watts called “Blonde.” This spring the film was announced as having a January start date lined up and a $20 million budget. The film was adapted for the screen by Dominik from Joyce Carol Oates’ imaginary Monroe memoirs,”Blonde,” and looks set to be in the same vein as his two previous films in being semi-biographical or dramatized versions of real-life characters and events. Certainly, Affleck would be an interesting choice for Joe DiMaggio or Arthur Miller, two of the major male figures in Monroe’s life who would undoubtedly feature in a biopic.

As exciting as it sounds to have Dominik and Affleck back together again, it remains to be seen if this pans out. For now, the next project linked to Affleck is rom-com “The F Word” which boasts a Black List script by Elan Mastai and “In Search Of A Midnight Kiss” director Alex Holdridge at the helm. And last we heard, testing was underway for the female lead with Rose Byrne, Rebecca Hall, Deborah Ann Woll and Mary Elizabeth Winstead all vying for the part. But since then, news around the project has grown a bit quiet. At any rate, you can see the Affleck/Joaquin Phoenix performance piece “I’m Still Here” in limited release now; if its not yet in your town, it rolls out over the next few weeks.
