Outside of “The Mandalorian,” there isn’t a whole lot of good news coming out of Lucasfilm about the future of the “Star Wars” live-action TV series. “Obi-Wan” seems delayed for the long haul, as a new writer was only just recently announced. And though the future of “Star Wars” is said to be on TV for the time being, there aren’t a lot of announcements coming out. Well, it appears that one other live-action series is moving ahead, finally, as “Cassian Andor” begins filling out its cast.
According to Variety, actors Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller are in negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” spin-off series, led by returning actor Diego Luna. Currently, there isn’t a whole lot of information about “Cassian Andor,” other than the obvious timeline, taking place before the events of ‘Rogue One,’ which introduced the world to the hero.
Tony Gilroy is apparently set to write the pilot episode and direct multiple entries in the series, while Stephen Schiff is aboard as showrunner. Gilroy, you may remember, was brought on to co-write and direct the infamous ‘Rogue One’ reshoots. By most accounts, specifically those of Gilroy himself, the filmmaker was able to “save” the film, which would go on to earn more than $1 billion at the box office and become what many believe to be the best ‘Star Wars’ film of the Disney era.

Skarsgard is an acclaimed actor that has appeared in numerous film and TV series over the decades. Most recently, he starred in the acclaimed HBO series, “Chernobyl.” He’s no stranger to big-budget filmmaking, either, having shown up numerous times in Marvel Studios films, as well as Disney’s own “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Soller, on the other hand, doesn’t have as lengthy a filmography as his new co-star, but he has appeared in a number of film and TV series over the past decade, including features such as “Anna Karenina,” “Marrowbone,” and most recently, “The Titan.”
It’s unclear when filming will begin on “Cassian Andor.” With the production delays, due to COVID-19, everything has been pushed back. But, at this point, it seems like a 2021 premiere is the absolute soonest.
