Ever since directing the first film in the sequel spawning megahit “Twilight” franchise, Catherine Hardwicke has been attached to a multitude of projects, but none of them seemed to have gotten off the ground.
According to Pajiba, the latest film to find her name attached is “Dot War.” The action/adventure film is about “about a video-game programmer who is trained by the government to fight terrorists using virtual technology.” So like “Hackers” meets “The Bourne Identity”? Hollywood has a troubling track record when it comes to realistically portraying computers in technology-led as they find to age even before they’re released, so we advise Hardwicke to tread carefully. No word yet on who has penned the script.
Like we mentioned, this one of quite a few projects on Hardwicke’s slate. There’s the potential franchise with “The Girl With The Red Riding Hood” with Amanda Seyfried attached that’s apparently casting right now; “If I Stay,” the supernatural drama with Dakota Fanning; the long-gestating musical version of “Haml3t” with Emile Hirsch and there was also talk last summer of Hardwicke directing Jonah Hill’s “21 Jump Street” reboot.
We no have idea what will get in front of cameras first, but if indeed “The Girl With The Red Riding Hood” is getting casting in place, that’s the most likely candidate. We’re still hoping “Haml3t” gets made soon, but given today’s climate, we’re not going to bet on that happening.
