Whether you like it or not, with two movies coming out this year on top of shooting two more –yes, that's four projects total — there's going to be a lot of Steven Soderbergh news in 2012. Just deal with it.
EW has dropped two more pictures from the upcoming stripper pic "Magic Mike" with Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matt Bomer showing off their buff bods. We'd like to say there is more info, but it seems all the magazine asked Bomer about was waxing. Seriously. However, we caught up with the director earlier today, and while the pics might suggest something a bit more broad in its approach, Soderbergh told us the film is a comedy, albeit one with a bit of an auteurist twist.
"It's funny in the way that [Robert] Altman movies are funny," Soderbergh said, adding there is a "sweetness" to what he describes as a "buddy movie." Indeed, the film is about a young hotshot (Pettyfer) who learns the tricks of the trade from a veteran (Tatum) at a male strip club. Man meat Matthew McConaughey and Joe Manganiello also lead the extensive ensemble.
But before you see these dudes strip, "Haywire" drops into theaters next week, and it couldn't be more different. The vengeance fueled thriller is led by MMA star Gina Carano, who brutally kicks the ass of more than one actor on her journey. A new clip shows Michael Fassbender trying to get the drop on her, but he'll soon learn that's a mistake.
"Haywire" opens on January 20th and "Magic Mike" on June 29th.
