Well, this got real. Quentin Tarantino‘s "The Hateful Eight," ever since the script leak, has been playing things close to the vest. Last month came the surprising news that Jennifer Jason Leigh grabbed the female lead, and now another starry name is circling the pic.
Deadline‘s two sentence report reveals that Channing Tatum is eyeing the movie. Which role? Your guess is as good as ours, and even though we looked at the movie in depth twice—Black Night, White Hell: A Look At Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Hateful Eight’ Western and Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Hateful Eight’ Roars To Life Onstage With Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Bruce Dern & Many More—Tarantino has since rewritten the script, so who knows what changes have been made.
And we likely we won’t know those details anytime soon. THR reports that foreign investors at the American Film Market interested in "The Hateful Eight" have to venture to The Weinstein Company‘s offices to read the script under close supervision. This isn’t unusual—the same tactic was used in the early days of Paul Thomas Anderson‘s "The Master"—but it speaks to Tarantino’s desire not to let another leak happen.
The trade also notes that movie, due in theaters next year, will begin shooting in Colorado next month. That’s a bit earlier than expected, but with Tarantino lensing on 65mm and projecting on analog as well, it’ll likely get him enough time to get processing finished, prints made, and more. And the plan is to have the movie finished in time for a Toronto International Film Festival premiere in the fall.
Tatum + Tarantino + TIFF….you excited yet?
Update 11/6: Screen Daily reports that Tatum’s role would be small, and his character would "enter the story towards the end of the script."
