With Natalie Portman recently signing on to spend most the year hanging with Terrence Malick on the probably-not-called-"Lawless"-anymore and "Knight Of Cups," it looks like her rumored appearance in The Wachowskis "Jupiter Ascending" won't work out. But her "Black Swan" co-star and another currently red hot star are now being lined up.
Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum — currently riding very high off the double whammy of hits "The Vow" and "21 Jump Street" — have been offered the leads in the brewing, mysterious film. Details are tightly under wraps, but as their bonkers R-rated gay romance Iraq war movie has had trouble getting off the ground (hardly surprising), the sibling duo are pushing ahead with this sci-fi project. Right now, about the only thing that is known is that it will shoot later this year, and while at one time The Wachowskis were willing to wait for Portman (who starred in "V For Vendetta" which they produced, and was lined up for a small role in "Cloud Atlas" in early stages), with the actress now shooting wheat fields with Malick, they are moving on.
It's hard to really comment on this at all, knowing nothing about it. We like both Kunis and Tatum, and it's easy to see why both of them would be enticed to take this on, and this would be new territory for both. And from a studio perspective, Warner Bros. looks eager to fill the role with two younger skewing stars. More likely and hopefully to come soon. [Deadline]
