Movies about drugs, people tripping out on drugs, or that promise a druggy experience as a viewer, are not in short supply, but there are few that actually live up to those promises. However, when Ben Wheatley decides to make a movie set in the Civil War in 17th century England, that centers on three deserters who eat some mushrooms and proceed to go on psychedelic trip into magic and madness—well, you’re going to get just that.
The prolific filmmaker’s “A Field In England,” which has already been granted the blessing of Martin Scorsese, is headed to the U.S., and we have a few more treats for you to try before it lands in cinemas. Namely, a new, appropriately acid-washed poster and a batch of new stills which nicely convey the absolutely bonkers movie Wheatley has in store. It’s not for everyone, featuring old timey dialogue and a tone that you’ll roll with (or not), but if you do give it a shot, you may be in for what our own Jessica Kiang called, a “boundary-pushing picture.”
“A Field In England” opens in select theaters and on VOD on February 7th. Check out the imagery below.
