We missed this for the Oscar audience, but with filming set to start on the action blockbuster “Salt,” the cast has fattened up considerably.
Previously, it was announced that Liev Schrieber, no stranger to the cloak and daggery of spy work having played John Clark in “The Sum Of All Fears.” Schrieber is set to play the boss of besieged government agent Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) when she becomes the target of a massive conspiracy implicating her in a presidential assassination. New to the cast is Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays a CIA counterintelligence operative, but who we’ll bet is EEEEVIL. The Kurt Wimmer/Brian Helgeland script, a hot potato for awhile now, is being directed by Philip Noyce (“Rabbit Proof Fence”), a smart director not above ocassionally selling out. Schrieber and Ejiofor, two very respectable actors, can next be seen in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and Roland Emmerich’s “2012,” so they are no strangers to bringing their legitimacy to a dubious-sounding movie.
