After breaking out in a big way thanks to the award-winning film “Call Me By Your Name,” director Luca Guadagnino has made some interesting career choices. He immediately followed up his period tale of young love with a remake of the classic Giallo film “Suspiria.” And now, after that horror film, the director is about to begin work on his TV debut, the HBO/Sky series “We Are Who We Are.”
And according to a new report from Variety, the upcoming drama series has secured its cast. Chloë Sevigny, Alice Braga, Jack Dylan Grazer, Tom Mercier, and rapper Kid Cudi have all joined the cast of Guadagnino’s upcoming HBO series. These actors will all populate the key cast for the series. Obviously, the most interesting name of the group is Kid Cudi, who is best known for his very specific style of hip-hop, and not so much dramatic acting. That being said, Cudi has shown up in a number of films over the last decade and will have a role in the forthcoming comedy “Bill & Ted Face the Music.”
“We Are Who We Are” is said to take place in Italy and follow a group of young people who live on a US military base. The series focuses on two teenagers, a boy and a girl, who are friends that get lumped in with a growing group of young people on the base. Many assume that the two are a couple, but the young 14-year-old boy is just discovering his identity and develops a romantic interest in an older soldier.

The series is set to begin production in Italy next month. No release date has been announced, but the eight-part limited series will likely debut in the first half of 2020.
