Producers Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson (“Journey to the Centre of the Earth 3D,” the upcoming “Red Dawn” remake) have stumbled across Hollywood’s Holy Grail – they’ve found two actors who haven’t already starred in a romantic comedy together. Anna Faris and Chris Evans will take the lead roles in the R-rated comedy “What’s Your Number?,” which follows a woman who, on discovering she’s slept with almost twice the national average of men (10.5, apparently), decides to revisit her exes in the hope of finding her true love, with the aid of her sleazy next door neighbor (Evans). Guess who she ends up with?
The project is based on the book by Karyn Bosnak, which has the much better title “Twenty Times A Lady,”and has a script from sitcom writers Jennifer Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan, who’ve respectively written for the likes of “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Scrubs.” “Entourage” helmer Mark Mylod will direct.
We read the script for this a little while ago, and weren’t hugely impressed. While it’s refreshing to see a female-led foul-mouthed romantic comedy, and the script is funny in fits and starts, it falls into formula in a way that the likes of “Knocked Up” managed to avoid – it’s essentially a standard rom-com, only with more uses of the word “vagina.” Still, Faris and Evans are both generally appealing presences, even if it’s very rare that either appear in films worthy of their talents.
