Chris Miller Teases Upcoming Batch Of Sony 'Spider-Man' TV Series As "Something Really Special"

Going into 2018, the idea that Sony’s animated ‘Spider-Man’ film would be one of the best of the year and a soon-to-be Oscar winner was never even considered. Sure, Phil Lord and Chris Miller were attached as producers on the film, but if Sony’s track record with the Marvel character was anything to go by, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” could have been a trainwreck. Well, now we know just how silly we were to doubt Lord and Miller. And Sony’s announcement that the duo is developing more Spidey-based projects is enough to make anyone excited.

Speaking to Deadline, one half of the duo, Chris Miller, spoke about that deal with Sony to produce a number of TV projects based on ‘Spider-Man’ characters and revealed that, much like ‘Spider-Verse,’ he expects the shows to be amazing, spectacular, and sensational (and whatever other Spidey adjectives you can think of).

“We are developing a handful of live-action shows using Sony’s Marvel characters, of which there are like 900 characters,” Miller said. “We’re figuring out a way to develop the shows so that each are their own unique experience but are also related.”

He added, “We’ve been talking to a lot of potential teammates for trying to do something not like anything else that’s been done on television. It’ll be a little while before it all comes together and is on the air, but I think it is going to be something really special.”

When he was pressed about the idea of the series and projects landing on Netflix, Miller said that they’ll likely know “in the next few months where it’ll be and what the schedule will be.”

Until then, we wait. But after the success of previous Lord and Miller films and TV projects, including the Oscar-winning animated film ‘Into the Spider-Verse,’ the duo has earned our patience.
