Chris Pratt, Chris Evans & Tom Holland Reportedly Among List Of Actors Originally Sought After For 'Sonic The Hedgehog'

Look, there’s no way of knowing if the upcoming “Sonic the Hedgehog” live-action/CGI hybrid film will be any good and/or make a ton of money at the box office. Video game adaptations, by and large, have been complete and utter garbage, and there’s nothing about ‘Sonic’ that screams success. But according to some leaked documents, Paramount was originally hoping to stack the deck with some A-list actors to ensure the film’s success.

As of now, the only things we know about “Sonic the Hedgehog” is that the film is based on the popular SEGA game of the same name, and stars James Marsden, Jim Carrey, Tika Sumpter, and Ben Schwartz as the voice of the titular character. Oh, and in the official poster, it appears that the main character is getting a bit of a realistic re-design (YMMV on how it looks), giving fans the same uneasy feeling they got after seeing the trailer for the upcoming “Detective Pikachu.”

But according to a “leaked internal poster” and cast list posted to Twitter, Paramount was hoping to have some major star power in the mix for this video game adaptation to sway any doubters. For the character of Tom, which we can assume is Marsden’s role, the list includes such heavy-hitters as Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, and Justin Timberlake. On the Sonic side of the things, the main character had some equally big names sought after to voice the hedgehog, including Tom Holland, Josh Gad, Andy Samberg, Will Forte, and Charlie Day.

Interestingly enough, you know what two names don’t appear on either list? James Marsden and Ben Schwartz. So, either this is a very early preliminary list or the studio cycled through all these names before arriving on two people who said yes. Also of note, there are some names that appear as options for both the human lead and Sonic, including the aforementioned Pratt and Rudd, along with Bill Hader.

Along with the cast lists, there is a poster mock-up that was done featuring the CGI Sonic (looking…okay) along with Chris Pratt as the Tom character, who is apparently a cop, with the log-line “Fast Friends.” Get it? Because they become friends quickly, and the main character is super fast. Comedy, folks!

At first the idea of a “Sonic the Hedgehog” film seemed silly and unnecessary, but we have to admit, with these interesting leaks and the odd official poster (seen below), we’re intrigued. This could either be a surprisingly charming family film or a complete trainwreck. Either way, we’re game to find out.

“Sonic the Hedgehog” races into theaters (puns!) on November 8, 2019.
