The last we heard about “Fargo” season 4 was when creator Noah Hawley commented that the series probably wouldn’t be coming in 2019. Well, at a recent TCA event, FX Networks and Productions CEO John Landgraf finally broke some news about the upcoming season of the critically-acclaimed series, including who will star and when production will begin.
First, the good news. It was announced that actor/comedian Chris Rock will serve as the star of the fourth season of the anthology series. According to the report, Rock will play the head of a crime family in 1950s Kansas City, Missouri. The location was chosen, as well as the era because it will serve as a collision between two migrations. The Italians coming from Italy and the African-Americans that are trying to escape the Jim Crow-era South.
The plot will revolve around Rock’s crime syndicate coming to an agreement with the enemy mafia leader, agreeing to exchange sons as a way to show a truce. When the head of the Kansas City mafia dies, the entire agreement changes and chaos breaks out.
Rock said in a statement, “I’m a fan of ‘Fargo’ and I can’t wait to work with Noah.”
Now, for the bad news. Unfortunately, Hawley was correct in March, when he hinted that the filming probably wouldn’t happen until 2019. FX has revealed that production on “Fargo” season 4 won’t begin until fall 2019. That means, it’s probably not until mid-to-late 2020 before we’ll see Chris Rock’s performance in the series.
Also, it’s interesting to see that Hawley has found time out of his otherwise busy schedule to return to the series. He’s obviously still working on his other FX series “Legion,” as well as the upcoming film “Pale Blue Dot.” However, Hawley is also attached to the upcoming Fox superhero film “Doctor Doom,” which is one of the many projects that seem to be in limbo due to the impending Disney-Fox merger.

Perhaps, Hawley sees the writing on the wall and knows that “Doctor Doom” is going to be shelved?
Either way, “Fargo” fans can rejoice. More goodness is on the way, albeit not anytime soon.
