Chris Rock Will Be 'Finally Famous'

nullThere’s no denying that Chris Rock is one of the most talented stand-up comedians of our time. His career as actor/writer/director, however, is a bit more dubious. His two films, “Head of State” and “I Think I Love My Wife” did not open to much fanfare and have since been largely forgotten. That said, his next project sounds a bit more promising.

Rock’s project, “Finally Famous,” was written by the comedian and he’ll be directing, with Scott Rudin on board as producer. The film centers on Andre Allen, “a comedian turned film star who, despite the expectations of his millions of fans, is determined to reinvent himself as a ‘serious’ actor.” While Andre’s acting career appears to be failing, his upcoming marriage to a popular reality star is expected to be “the biggest media event of the year.” In the lead-up to this event, he agrees to be interviewed by a woman for the New Yorker, an interaction that could “change the course of both their lives.”

It looks like it will be a pointed look at celebrity culture which will either be edgy or tread over territory we’ve seen numerous times before. The premise also seems to have a distinct whiff of “Funny People” as well, though as always, we’ll have to wait and see.

Rock and Rudin previously worked together on the Broadway production “The Mother****er with the Hat” which Rock starred in. Hopefully, their collaboration can lead to some great results. Filming is slated to begin in June. [Showbiz411]
