Christian Bale Is No Cinephile, But He Loves 'Beverly Hills Ninja'

Sometimes you go into an interview hoping to grab just one good morsel of a quote for the story you have to run. Sometimes, an actor will just give it to you.

In the latest issue of Esquire, in the midst of an interview with a very prickly Christian Bale, the actor reveals two things: 1) he’s not a cinephile and 2) he loves “Beverly Hills Ninja.” That’s right, Bruce Wayne loves Chris Farley.

The actor calls the late comedian a “phenomenon” and reveals that he watched “Beverly Hills Ninja” two nights in a row and “cried with laughter.” Amazing. So if you need to know what to get Bale for Christmas just click right here. But seriously, someone also needs to get him copies of “Bringing Up Baby,” “The Philadelphia Story” and “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” because he hasn’t seen those and thus, has no idea what he’s missing. But mostly, we want to see his reaction when Mickey Rooney starts doing his Mr. Yunioshi thing. You can check out the full quote from the interview after the jump:

BALE: You’re not talking to a cinemaphile.
ESQUIRE: But I bet you’ve seen ‘Aguirre, the Wrath of God.’
BALE: Yes.
ESQUIRE: ‘Blue Velvet‘?
BALE: Yes.
ESQUIRE: What else?
BALE: I saw ‘The Wild Bunch‘ recently. I remember being rocked by ‘Naked‘ when that came out — and I hate the pretentiousness of that, referencing a Mike Leigh movie, but it really did fascinate me for some reason.
ESQUIRE: It’s a very grungy movie.
BALE: And Chris Farley was just phenomenal. ‘Beverly Hills Ninja‘ will always remain one of my tops.
ESQUIRE: Now you’re lying.
BALE: I have watched that movie. One time I sat down and watched it two nights in a row, and cried with laughter both times. The guy just was a phenomenon, and is missed dearly in my household.
