HOLLYWOOD – To say the Emmy celebration Netflix put on last night was lit is something of an understatement. 2017”s post-show celebration was euphoric with Lena Waithe celebrating a historic Emmy win, but this year was on par with the notorious In Style party at the Golden Globes. I mean, it’s not every year the stars of “Game of Thrones,” the Drama Series winner, come to the competing network’s Emmy party.

(We’re gonna assume they went to HBO’s shindig first. At least we hope they did.)

You could find Plemmons and Dunst; Bobby Brown and her “Stranger Things” co-stars; and later Foy and Harrington kicking it on the dance floor. RuPaul Charles was making the rounds (he has a new show with Michael Patrick King for Netflix that should be beginning production in a few weeks) and the sight of CBS stars Colbert and Corden at the streaming service’s soiree was almost eye-brow raising.
I did catch up with Emmy winner Regina King who was still on a high after winning the Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series or TV movie for “Seven Seconds.” She is also a Supporting Actress contender for “If Beale Street Could Talk” which premiered at TIFF last week and told me how “honored” she was to be part of Barry Jenkins‘ celebrated new film. She’ll soon start production on Damon Lindelof’s new “Watchman” series for HBO.
Netflix tied with HBO with 23 wins overall including the Creative Arts Emmys and a statement released by Cindy Holland, VP of Original Series, was a fitting way to remember the night.
“Tonight’s recognition is a tribute to the creativity and talent of thousands of artists and we are thrilled to see their work awarded by the Academy. We are honored to share this night with our friends at HBO, who have paved the way for years by setting the highest possible standard.”
We can’t wait to see what happens next year.
