Back in 2018, “A Very English Scandal” was released and earned series stars Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw a ton of acclaim and awards recognition. While that series doesn’t necessarily lend itself to a sequel, it appears that Amazon and BBC One have figured out how to make a follow-up, “A Very British Scandal.”
According to Variety, Claire Foy and Paul Bettany have signed on to star in the upcoming limited series, “A Very British Scandal.” The series won’t follow the same characters and story of the previous show, but instead, will focus on the real-life divorce between the Duke (Bettany) and Duchess of Argyll (Foy), which devolved into one of the more brutal legal battles in recent memory. Some of the accusations that were brought to light during the legal proceedings included forgery, theft, violence, drug-taking, secret recording, bribery, and an explicit picture. “A Very British Scandal” will be written by Sarah Phelps, with Anne Sewitsky attached to direct each of the three episodes.
“I’m so excited to work with Anne, Sarah and Paul on this extraordinary project, and to explore through this story, how often shame, judgement and controversy surrounds a woman’s sexuality,” Foy said.

Bettany added, “I’m delighted to be working with the remarkable Claire Foy to tell the fascinating and scandalous story of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll and their very complicated lives. I’m also extremely happy to get the chance to once again be working with the wonderful teams at the BBC and Amazon Studios.”
Bettany is coming off the biggest show of 2021, so far, “WandaVision.” The Marvel Studios series debuted in January and grew to mammoth viewership before its finale last week. Foy, of course, is probably best known for her TV work, as the Emmy–winning lead of the first two seasons of Netflix’s “The Crown,” in which she also played British Royalty.
It’s unclear when “A Very British Scandal” will debut, but with Foy and Bettany attached, it looks like Amazon and BBC One have another hit on their hands.
