The upcoming film “Clara’s Ghost” isn’t your typical film about a person being haunted by the afterlife. While the story of a family being haunted by a ghost may immediately bring to mind films like “The Conjuring” or “Insidious,” “Clara’s Ghost” is a bit more off-kilter than those horror films. Sure, there’s definitely some drama and the occasional, but the Sundance film features more than its fair share of humor along the way.
It’s that bit of humor that highlights an exclusive clip we have to share for the upcoming film. In honor of the film hitting theaters in December, we have a brief look at what is sure to be one of the more interesting and absurd indie films to come out this fall.
In the clip, we see what happens when your standard “dad jokes” cross that line from corny and embarrassing to downright offensive and unnecessary. Jokes about teenage suicide, crude sexual behavior, and two pitching machines (you have to watch the clip) show off the unique tone of “Clara’s Ghost.” Sure, the film follows a woman who is being haunted by a ghost, but that doesn’t mean you’re not going to laugh a lot along the way.
The film is written and directed by Bridey Elliott. The filmmaker performs triple-duty on “Clara’s Ghost,” acting as one of the film’s stars, as well. The film is a bit of a family affair, with Elliott bringing along some of her family to round out the cast, including Abby Elliott, Chris Elliott, and Paula Niedert Elliott. Haley Joel Osment also stars, as is evident in the clip.
“Clara’s Ghost” will hit select theaters on December 6 and VOD on December 7.
Here’s the synopsis:
Set over the course of a single evening in the Reynolds family home in suburban Connecticut, the film tells the story of Clara Reynolds who, fed up with constant ribbing from her self-absorbed showbiz family, finds solace in and guidance from the supernatural force she believes is haunting her.
