A few bits of soundtrack/score news to catch up on, so let's get right to it, shall we? First up, Cliff Martinez — who knocked everyone's socks off last year with this scores for "Drive" and "Contagion" — is kicking of 2012 in a big way. He's already tuned up the forthcoming "Arbitrage" starring Richard Gere, and re-teamed with Nicolas Winding Refn for "Only God Forgives." Now he's been nabbed by Robert Redford to bring his upcoming drama "The Company You Keep" to musical life.
Penned by Lem Dobbs (”Kafka,” “The Limey," "Haywire”) the story follows a former Weather Underground militant Jim Grant (Redford, naturally) wanted by the FBI for 30 years for a Bank Of Michigan robbery, who must go on the run when his true identity is exposed by a young, ambitious reporter (Shia LaBeouf) hell-bent on making a name for himself. The strong cast is rounded out by Brit Marling, Anna Kendrick, Terence Howard, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Elliott and 11-year-old "America's Got Talent" finalist Jackie Evancho. No release date yet, but this is shaping up to be one of the most promising offerings of the year.
Next up, you might recall that Clint Mansell's score for the infidelity drama "Last Night" starring Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington was getting a belated release. Well the details are here. The album will span seven tracks, and while it's not exactly a huge release, it is getting a nice treatment courtesy of Milan Records who in addtion to the standard CD and digital releases, will also be dropping it on 180 gram vinyl for all you audiophiles out there. Nice. It will hit stores on March 27th, with Mansell gearing up for his first live shows at L.A.'s famed Largo club on April 4th and 5th.
Finally, this summer's comedy "Neighborhood Watch" starring Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn will be powered by Christophe Beck. The genre is no stranger to the composer who last year found his music in "The Hangover Part II," "Cedar Rapids," "Crazy Stupid Love" and "Tower Heist." This time around it will be in service of the story that follows a group of suburban friends who form the titular group after a murder, only to discover an alien plot to take over the world. The film opens on July 27th. [Film Music Reporter]
