If you slept on “Cold War” last year, then you did yourself a disservice. While “Roma” was out there grabbing all the Best Foreign-Language Film trophies, the black and white musical drama starring Joanna Kulig and Tomasz Kot, directed by Paweł Pawlikowski, was a hit among critics and those who saw the film. And now, thanks to that success, one of the actors is set to take on the biggest role of his career.
Deadline is reporting that Tomasz Kot is set to play the famous inventor Nikola Tesla in a new biopic from screenwriter-director Anand Tucker, simply titled “Nikola.” The film is said to cover the scientist’s life as he attempts to capitalize on his genius and his ambitions while also overcoming some of his inner demons.

“Nikola Tesla was one of the most influential and important minds at the dawn of 20th century, and in many ways created our modern world, with its electric cars, instant connectivity through the Internet, and global communication,” said the filmmaker. “He was also a deeply complex and extraordinary human being. Tomasz is an exquisite actor, and when I saw his extraordinary performance in ‘Cold War’ there was no doubt in my mind as to who should play Tesla.”
Tucker is probably best known for being the director of films like “Leap Year,” “Hilary and Jackie,” and “Shopgirl.” He was also a producer on “The Girl with a Pearl Earring.”
“We are beyond thrilled to have Tomasz on board. He is the perfect actor for the role and we are so excited to be working together to bring Anand’s terrific script to life,” said producer Daria Jovicic.

Kot joins a pretty great list of actors who have recently portrayed Tesla for films. Nicholas Hoult played the famed inventor in the film “The Current War.” And Ethan Hawke is set to take on the role of Nikola Tesla in an upcoming biopic. And maybe the most famous of all, David Bowie played him in the Christopher Nolan film, “The Prestige.”
There’s no word on when we might see “Nikola” arrive in theaters, but we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this project.
