Comedy Series 2021 Emmys Predictions And Contenders

Barring a last-minute deluge of contenders premiering in time, the race for a 2021 Comedy Series nomination is wide, wide open. Granted, “Ted Lasso” is the easy frontrunner to win it all, but out of the expected eight nomination slots there are only six likely nominees and even that might be a stretch. I mean, did you think “Emily in Paris” would be a Comedy Series Emmy nominee when it debuted last October?

Two safe contenders are “The Kominsky Method,” a two-time nominee which is barely making the deadline with a May 28th release, and “Black-ish” which missed out last year but was previously nominated in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Originally a limited series, guild favorite “The Flight Attendant” should also crack the category after being reclassified as a returning series. and we’re gonna just assume “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” finally gets the recognition it deserves (fingers crossed). That leaves two (or more) slots up for grabs.

Your contenders? “Pen15,” “Superstore,” “Saved by the Bell,” “Dickinson,” “Made for Love,” “Cobra Kai” and “Mythic Quest,” among others. “Pen15” might have the strongest chance of making it (the Helen Mirren endorsement during the SAG Awards certainly didn’t hurt), but Hulu is gonna have to campaign hard to get a good chunk of the 20,000 Television Academy members to watch it. Then again, the same could be said of critics favorites “Mythic Quest” and “Dickinson” too. Or maybe “Superstore” and “Shameless” make it in their final seasons. This year, anything’s possible.
