A lot of pop culture events and conventions have been canceled due to the current ongoing pandemic, from film festivals to concerts. One of the biggest blows for fans of comic books and big blockbusters was the cancellation of summer staple San Diego Comic-Con for the first time in its 50-year history. However, it looks like the team behind the biggest geek gathering in the world managed to make the convention work after all.

On Friday, Comic-Con’s official Twitter feed announced they are turning the massive convention into a digital event this summer, with a short and slightly vague video poking fun at all the worst parts of Comic-Con: “Coming soon… Free parking, comfy chairs, personalised snacks, no lines, pets welcome, badges for all, and a front-row seat to… Comic-Con at Home!”
Honestly, a Comic-Con without massive lines for absolutely everything, uncomfortable chairs, overpriced food and smelly people doesn’t seem like Comic-Con, but being able to see some cool trailers from the comfort of your own home may be the best thing to happen to the convention in years.
We don’t know what “Comic-Con at Home” will include, and it remains to be seen whether it will attract the same kind of high-profile announcements and surprise guests they are known for. This is especially true of the movie studios that have pushed all their releases, but whether it’s trailers for the movies like “Wonder Woman 1984” that have finished production and got their released dates moved, or smaller discussions with artists and filmmakers, this is sure to be welcoming news to fans and creators.
