Coming Soon To A Theater Near You? David O. Russell's 'Nailed' Gets Rated By MPAA Plus More Pics From The Film

More than five years since cameras first started rolling Spring 2008 on David O. Russell‘s “Nailed,” the saga of the “unfinished” (at least by the director) movie continues. Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the movie was headed to some kind of release before the end of 2013, and while that’s probably not happened, it seems some wheels are turning on the film that could yet find it seeing the light of day.

Rope Of Silicon has noted in their weekly update of MPAA ratings, that “Nailed” has earned a PG-13 “for sexual contact and language.” This is certainly a surprise. The movie, starring Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal, Catherine Keener, Tracy Morgan and James Marsden, follows an uninsured waitress (Biel) who accidentally gets shot in the head with a nail. She goes to Washington on a crusade to fight for the rights of the bizarrely injured, but gets taken advantage of by a slimy congressman (Gyllenhaal). Here’s the thing—the crucial scene of Biel getting shot in the head was slated to be reshot. Production on the troubled shoot, which was underfunded and hamstrung by financiers, shut down completely before that could happen.

But that hasn’t stopped the current owners of the movie from trying to make it work. Back in 2011, a very rough and raw version of “Nailed” was screened for a test audience (check out a reader report here, which notes that the important scene of Biel was underlit, poorly cut and came with a title card reading “to be reshot”) and it would seem in the two years since, some patchwork solution has been found. However, it’s not unusual for a movie to be screened very, very early for the MPAA, so who knows if/when this will ever actually be released.

We’re mostly curious about what the plans are surrounding the movie that we don’t see getting any support from the filmmaker or the stars involved, considering they never have had a chance to complete their work. So maybe a DVD or VOD release of some kind? More questions than answers at this point, but somewhere a cut of this movie seems to exist. Whether or not we get to see it remains uncertain. But until then, here are some more pics from the movie dug up by Weirdland this Spring.
