David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” is already shooting in Toronto as we speak — hey, it comes out next summer, it better have started already — but the super villain team-up movie has added one more member to its cast loaded all-star cast. Actor/rapper Common, who recently appeared in Warner Bros.’ Liam Neeson thriller “Run All Night” and won an Academy Award for his musical contributions to “Selma,” has joined the ensemble film in an undisclosed role.
“Suicide Squad” is stacked and features Jared Leto as the Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Additional actors include Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis, Adam Beach, Ike Barinholtz, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Scott Eastwood, the latter is reportedly connected to a character in “Wonder Woman.” “Suicide Squad” centers on imprisoned super villains who are recruited by a government agency to perform covert operations in exchange for furlough from incarceration, but it’s a one-sided deal. They either rot in jail or risk their lives on hazardous missions just to get a taste of freedom, hence the title.
Jessie Eisenberg and Ben Affleck could cameo as Lex Luthor and Batman in the film, but as of right now that’s not confirmed. [THR]

In other casting news, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Ex Machina” actor Domhnall Gleeson is circling a role in Universal’s “Mena,” which stars Tom Cruise and is directed by Doug Liman. Jayma Mays and Sarah Wright also co-star in “Mena,” which tells the true story of a pilot who landed work for the CIA and as a drug runner in the deep south during the 1980s. He was eventually shot to death by the Medellin cartel.
That’s a pretty damn weird project for Tom Cruise to star in considering he’s the pilot in question, but this one sounds more like dramatic thriller instead of heroic action film (which is mostly what Cruise does these days), so maybe it will be a nice change of pace for the audience and the star. No word on Gleeson’s role. “Mena” is due in theaters sometime in 2016. [Variety]
