If there is a silver lining for film and TV fans during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s that the stars of beloved projects have gotten back together to do impromptu watchalongs and Q&A’s from the comfort of their homes. And perhaps the best example of this was the recent “Parks & Rec” special, which saw the original cast come together for a new webcam-based episode of the series. Now, it appears that “Community” is doing something similar.
According to Variety, the cast of “Community” is set to reunite for a virtual table read on YouTube that will find the actors revisiting their characters for the first time since the end of Season 6. But with “Community” finding incredible success on streaming services, especially recently with its return to Netflix, there’s renewed fan interest in the comedy series.
However, unlike “Parks & Rec,” the cast isn’t coming back for a new episode of the series. Instead, the actors will be performing a virtual read of the Season 5 episode titled “Cooperative Polygraphy.” That specific installment of “Community” is a bottle episode that featured the characters in the Greendale Community College library after the funeral of Pierce (Chevy Chase).
The table read will feature the stars of the series such as stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, and Donald Glover. Yes, Donald Glover will be returning to “Community” for the first time since leaving the series after Season 5. Also joining the actors will be series creator, Dan Harmon.
Whether or not this will turn into something more in the future is unknown. We’ve seen reports that there are still plans and discussions about possibly reuniting the cast for a film to wrap up the stories of the “Community” characters, but nothing concrete has been announced. Until then, fans of the series will have this table read to enjoy.
