“Hostiles” is a film that seemed to fly under the radar late last year. With great performances from Christian Bale and Rosamund Pike, the film was positioned to be a contender during awards season, however, that never panned out. But with the Blu-ray for the film arriving this week, we’d like to offer our readers a chance to check out one of the more underrated films of 2017.

The film tells the story of a U.S. Cavalry office that is ordered to escort a Cheyenne chief and his family to Montana. Joining Bale and Pike in the cast are Wes Studi, Jesse Plemons, Adam Beach, Ben Foster, and Timothée Chalamet (who was in pretty much every great movie from 2017). “Hostiles” was written and directed by Scott Cooper, who is best known for the films “Crazy Heart,” “Out of the Furnace,” and “Black Mass.” The Blu-ray for the film features a 3-part documentary covering the making of the film.

Here’s the synopsis of the film:
Set in 1892, Hostiles tells the story of a legendary Army captain (Bale) who, after stern resistance, reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief (Studi) and his family back to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from Fort Berringer, an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico, to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow (Pike), whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape, hostile Comanche, and ruthless outliers that they encounter along the way.
