The rise of Barack Obama from eager, young politician to the first African-American President of the United States feels like it’s from a movie, but that’s probably what makes his story so cinematic. And as he gets ready to leave offie, two movies have already been made about him: “Barry,” which hits Netflix on Friday, and “Southside With You,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Written and directed by Richard Tanne, starring Tika Sumpter and Parker Sawyers, and executive-produced by John Legend, this low-key film is set on a summer’s day in 1989, and follows a law associate named Barack Obama who uses all his charms to woo attorney Michelle Robinson. “Southside With You” brings that magical encounter to life as it follows Barack and Michelle on a day-long date that takes them from an art exhibit to a screening of “Do The Right Thing” to an unforgettable first kiss.
