“Don’t Breathe” may not only have become a smash hit this summer, but might also be one of the most profitable movies of the year. Made for a relatively small $9 million, the Fede Alvarez-directed flick grossed nearly $90 million in the U.S. on its way to $152 million worldwide.

Starring Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto and Stephen Lang, “Don’t Breathe” centers on a trio of reckless thieves who break into the house of a blind man, thinking they’ll get away with the perfect heist. They’re dead wrong. The film was a critical hit, audiences loved it, and Sony was so impressed that the studio gave Alvarez the filmmaking gig for the next ‘Dragon Tattoo’ movie.
