One of the year’s best movies was made on an almost non-existent budget and shot in secret last summer – which made the pleasant surprise of David Lowery‘s “A Ghost Story” all the more enjoyable when it premiered at Sundance and hit cinemas this summer. The premise is simple: Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara star as a young couple who — after being separated by loss — discover an eternal connection and a love that is infinite. Indeed, the film is a beautiful meditation on life in the present and in the afterlife, or what such a notion means. Yet, for all its assertion that we’re just a speck of the dust in the cosmic soup, “A Ghost Story” is tremendously life-affirming.
