“If you ride like lightning, you’re going to crash like thunder,” Ryan Gosling is warned in “The Place Beyond The Pines.” And in his reteam with “Blue Valentine” director Derek Cianfrance, that phrase is one that echoes through generations, in a epic film about legacy, loss and the sins of the father. The film, which premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, opened in cinemas this past spring and did brisk business, but if it didn’t make it to your town or somehow you didn’t manage to see it, we’ve got a treat….
Co-starring Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, Ben Mendelsohn, Dane DeHaan and Emory Cohen, the film follows Luke (Gosling), a motorcycle stunt rider, who finds out he’s a father and turns to bank robbery to help support his son. But that decision brings with it heavy consequences that refract out to his own family, and those he’s yet to meet. As we said, it’s a powerful film that trades in the intimacy of “Blue Valentine,” for vast widescreen vistas that still keep the complex characters close to the fore. And we’ve got 3 Blu-rays for some lucky readers, so if you haven’t seen the movie or are a huge fan, you can find out how you can win below.
